Making Bedtime Regular

“As the evening beckons with the promise of tomorrow… may your gratitude rise up and with strength answer, ‘yes.’” - Mary Anne Radmacher

For day two of Best Practices Before Bed week we’re talking about the most important part of an evening routine!

What do you think it is?

Well I’ll tell you!

It’s going to bed at the same time every night!

Whether it’s Monday night or Friday night, it is so important to go to bed at the same time every night!

Why?

A few reasons!

  1. It helps you fall asleep faster. When your body gets used to going to bed at the same time, it adjusts to that time, and is ready to sleep at that time

  2. It improves your mood. Because your body is ready to sleep at the same time, you sleep is more regular which means your mood is more stable the following day.

  3. It improves your metabolism. We know that a heathy metabolism is important for being healthy overall and a 2013 study found that those who didn’t have a regular sleep rhythm were more likely to have a metabolic imbalance.

It turns out a regular bedtime isn't just for kids! Take some time to think about what time you want to get up in the morning, how many hours of sleep you need (7-8 is recommended), do the math, and make that time your bedtime as regularly as you can!
